Why Dwell exists, and who builds it

Dwell is a real-time transit platform built for university campuses. It turns the raw GPS coming off campus buses into arrival predictions, and publishes its accuracy in the open.

Why it exists

Campus arrival screens are only as good as the data behind them. Most campus tracking passes a vendor's numbers through to riders, and neither the rider nor the transportation office can say how good those numbers are. Dwell starts from the raw GPS each bus reports, rebuilds predictions from it, and measures the result continuously so anyone who looks can see the quality.

Built for the academic calendar

A campus in July moves nothing like a campus in October. Dwell learns separate timing models for each service period (summer, semester, and breaks), so arrivals reflect how the campus is moving right now.

Measured in the open

Predictions are scored against the open Transit/Swiftly ETA benchmark and reported next to how often a prediction was there at all. The figures refresh hourly and are published whether or not the week went well.

Who's behind Dwell

Dwell is designed, built, and operated by its founder, one engineer responsible for the GPS ingestion, the prediction engine, the apps, and the public accuracy report. The same rule holds across this site: nothing is described as if it already shipped, and anything not yet serving riders is left out rather than promised.
